How He LOVES us

This is a concept I have struggled with my whole life. In my teenage years, especially, I operated with the theory that all people screw us and/or we screw them, so I should never get close to anyone, and then no pain would come to me, nor would I cause any pain. Great theory, I know. But in college I began to realize that the pain that necessarily comes with love, because we love imperfectly, is so minimal in comparison to the joy and life that comes from love. The beautiful thing, though, about God's love is that He loves perfectly. No pain is involved. He won't hurt us. He will just love and love and love. He will never betray. I guess there is pain in the sense of refinement, healing, transformation... but it is a good pain, because it just enables us to experience His love more. I'm listening to David Crowder's song "How He Loves Us" as I write this. My friend got me listening to this song, to remind me of the fact that God isn't just a good, sovereign God who stays at a distance. No, He runs to us, He embraces us, He communes with us, HE LOVES US. I want to know this deeper and receive His love more.
