Hear this from one who experiences weariness often and intensely- one weary traveler to another...
"Why?" is not the question for us to linger on with God. My default response to most things is, "but why?" It's not a bad question, and I think it is very often a necessary question. But when it comes to me and God, I've learned that I need to let go of the "why" thing...
From my experience, God doesn't usually answer when I ask why. Or if He does, it doesn't help me because I don't get it anyway. His ways are not our ways. (Isaiah 55:9) But all the ways of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness for those who are His children. (Psalm 25:10) Asking God why usually leaves us even more weary.
Rather, God has shown me that I should be asking Him, "how?" Whether I realize it or not, when I ask God how, my heart is postured in belief and a willingness to obey. Hesitancy accompanies asking why. It implies that we have not yet made up our mind. But when I ask how, I am also saying that I will follow. "How" is a question that makes sense- we can't (aside from divine revelation) understand the purpose and reasoning behind what happens in our lives and all around us. And I have often found that God tells me to do things that seem really ridiculous by human reasoning. But that can't stop us from obeying.
God will not lead us into weariness. Weariness is a product of sinful beings living in a fallen world. And weariness cannot be reasoned or willed out of. There is only one antidote. Give up trying to do things your way or the world's way. Especially give up trying to do "godly" things your way or the world's way. What Jesus calls us to cannot be done by human methods. Period. I grow weary of living- just being alive- almost every day. I cannot keep living by my strength or determination. So rather than getting stuck asking why I have to keep living, I have had to learn to ask how I can keep living.
God's commands are always accompanied by His power to carry them out. Always.
When you are weary, see it as a sign that you are trying to operate with the resources of this world. Following Jesus isn't about understanding why, it's about understanding how. And here's the first "how"...
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." -Matthew 11:28
