Moment by moment
"It is only our daily bread that we are encouraged to ask for. The present is the only time in which any duty can be done or any grace received."
C.S. Lewis- from The Weight of Glory
I have been convicted lately of the need to live in the moment. In Exodus God gives the Isrealites the manna they need for the day. They are only to gather enough for that day, and whatever they gain extra, the next day it is ruined. They are to trust God for His provision for each day. In the Lord's prayer we are told to ask for our "daily bread." Again, trusting that God will take care of today. Then somewhere in the New Testament (I forget where), it says to not be anxious about tomorrow, for today has enough trouble of it's own. Today is where our focus ought to be.
So often I worry about tomorrow... how I will feel emotionally, what I will do to fill my time, how my heart will be towards God, if I will receive some devastating news... but who knows what will tomorrow will bring, and thus why worry about things that may not even have to be of concern?? God gives us the grace to endure and live in each moment. That's it, and that's all He needs to give us. Tomorrow will take care of itself. Take care of today. Live in this moment, and live it in the power and life of Christ.
